Barbara Walters announced Monday morning that she will undergo surgery this week to replace a defective heart valve.

“You know how I always say to you how healthy I am … I’ve never missed a day’s work,” she said on “The View.” “Later this week, I’m going to have surgery to replace one faulty heart valve. Lots of people have done this and I have known about this condition for a while now.”

The legendary journalist, 80, said she decided to go through with the surgery now because she will have enough time to recover during her talk show’s upcoming summer hiatus.
